The National Council for Coordination of Cooperation with the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China was established in May 2017 under a Decision passed by the Government of the Republic of Serbia. The Council has its President and Members who are all appointed by a separate governmental Act.
The National Council is headed by former President of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Tomislav Nikolić. In addition to the six Government-appointed Members, the Council has nine other Members who serve ex officio: Minister of Foreign Affairs; Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications; Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure; Minister of Finance; Minister of Economy; Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management; Minister of Mining and Energy; Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development; Minister of Culture and Information.
The National Council considers, directs and coordinates the implementation of the Strategic Partnership Agreement between the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between the Republic of Serbia and the People’s Republic of China. The National Council holds sessions which are convened and chaired by its President.
The Office of the National Council, set up under a Regulation of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, provides the professional, administrative and technical support services to the Council. The Director of the Office, apart from being its head, also acts as the National Council’s Secretary and participates in the work of the Council, without the right to take decisions.
