Speaking on behalf of the Moscow International Foundation for Support to UNESCO, Ms. Manana Popova acquainted Mr. Nikolić with the works carried out at the Cathedral so far in line with the Donation Agreement signed between the Society for the Construction of St. Sava’s Vračar Cathedral, Gazprom Neft and the Moscow International Foundation for Support to UNESCO, underlining that 70% of the mosaic had already been completed and that the wall paintings were to be finalized within the agreed completion dates. The author of the mosaic at St. Sava’s Cathedral Nikolai Mukhin highlighted that his team was ready to embark on the second stage of works under the 2014 intergovernmental Agreement adopted by the Joint Russia-Serbia Project Competition Committee.

“I deeply respect what you have been doing for our Cathedral. The Serbian side will do everything it can, having in mind that the approaching 2019 is the year of an important jubilee, as the Serbian Orthodox Church will be celebrating the 800th anniversary of autocephaly. Joint ornamental works adorning St. Sava’s Cathedral symbolize brotherhood and friendship between the Serbs and the Russians, which is a huge and significant step for the Orthodox”, Tomislav Nikolić underlined.
